[.COOP] DotCooperation LLC Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy Revision Date: 2 April 2009

DotCooperation LLC (dotCoop) respects your privacy and wants to assure you that the information that you have entrusted to us is only used as described in this privacy policy and through your registration agreement with dotCoop and your dotCoop accredited registrar. This Privacy Policy describes:

the personal data items that dotCoop collects and maintains;
how this data is collected;
why this data is collected;
who may be provided this personal data and why;
how to access your data and how to limit use of your data.

Please note that this site contains links to other sites on the Internet. DotCoop is not responsible for privacy policies on these other sites. Please be cautious about providing personal data at any site.

Information Required for Domain Name Registration

DotCoop is the ICANN-accredited Sponsor of the .coop top-level domain (TLD). As such, DotCoop accepts domain name registrations only from ICANN-accredited registrars that have their own privacy policies.

DotCoop information pertaining to domain name registrations is typically maintained by the registrant through their .coop registrar. Registrars submit this data electronically to the dotCoop registry operator for maintenance. The .coop Registry also maintains information about the verification status of each registrant which is communicated to the registrar as needed. DotCoop maintains this verification information solely for the purpose of verification of eligibility and does not disclose this information.

Sharing Information Collected for Domain Name Registration

When you register a domain name through a .coop registrar, we disclose your domain name and its associated nameservers to TLD server administrators to make your address functional on the Internet. DotCoop is bound by the .coop Sponsor Agreement with ICANN (http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/coop/.)

As required by this .coop Sponsor Agreement, we may also provide access to the TLD zone files to other interested recipients, provided those recipients agree not to use the TLD zone files for purposes such as the transmission of unsolicited commercial e-mails (Appendix 3 of the ICANN agreement.)

Also, as required by the .coop Sponsor Agreement, we make information about domain name registrants available to the general public via domain name registration database look-up (WHOIS) services. WHOIS access is available on a query-by-query basis only. DotCoop does not provide bulk WHOIS data. Please note that registrars are also required to provide WHOIS access for all of their registrations and may have differing policies for bulk access to this information. Please review each registrar's privacy policy for information on these issues. DotCoop does not provide verification information through WHOIS.

DotCoop also provides a directory of active .coop domains through www.nic.coop and www.directory.coop  that is searchable by registrant location, organization name or industry category. Only WHOIS public contact information is provided in the original directory entry,
however registrants can update this information without impact to their dotCoop registry information and add additional materials.  All such updates and additions are external to the .coop registry data and are not covered under this Privacy Policy.  Registrants can update their directory entry so that it is excluded from the directory at their discretion through an online process.

DotCoop gathers information about all visitors collectively, such as what areas of the site users visit most frequently and what services users access most often. DotCoop automatically logs session sources, and other data which tracks users' access to this site. We analyze these logs in order to understand aggregate user behavior as well as for system performance monitoring. These logs are analyzed for the overall, aggregate trends they reveal about our customers, not for the behaviors of individual users. DotCoop may disclose aggregated user statistics in order to describe the service to prospective partners, advertisers, and other third parties, and for other lawful purposes.

Sharing the Information We Collect on our Web Site

The information that you supply to DotCoop through this site will never be given, sold, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed to any third parties outside of DotCoop, except when we have your express permission, or under special circumstances, such as when it is necessary to comply with legal process or protect the rights, property, or personal safety of DotCoop, its customers, or the public.

We may share aggregated demographic information with our business partners and the press. This is not linked to any personal data that can identify any individual person.

Other processors (vendors, subcontractors, and other similar business partners) are responsible for processing some of the personal data that we receive on our behalf. Use of personal data by these processors is restricted to activities required to perform the delegated functions.

Security

DotCoop is very careful to protect your information. Data submitted to our web site or through our registrars is protected both online and offline.

All of our users' personal data is access-restricted, and the servers on which we store personal data are kept in a secure environment.

Message Boards

DotCoop is not responsible for maintaining as confidential any personal or other data posted by you on message boards that may be hosted by our Web site. Disclosing such personal data in this way makes this publicly available information unless otherwise noted by dotCoop.

Registry Newsletter

DotCoop provides a periodic newsletter to the registrant email address of all .coop registrants based on your purchase and/or renewal of a .coop domain.  You may “opt-out” of this newsletter at any time by using that feature on the newsletter or by contacting dotCoop directly at support@nic.coop.

Registry Alerts

DotCoop may from time to time send registrants special alerts concerning your .coop registration. Registrants are not able to unsubscribe from these alerts, which contain critical information about your .coop registration.
